TRIBUTE TO KEYwAN KARIMI

In Iran, filmmaking is a dangerous profession. So it has proved for Keywan Karimi: in 2015, he was sentenced to 6 years in prison, with a 5-year suspended sentence, and 223 lashes by the Islamic Revolution Court for "propaganda against the functioning of the state regime" and "insult to the sacredness of Islam". His crime? Writing on the Walls, a 60-minute documentary on the subject of graffiti art in Tehran which was never screened in Iran. He is incarcerated in Evin since November 23rd 2016, and joins the long list of Iranian artists condemned for their work.

The FIFDH dedicates its 15th edition to him and will screen his first fiction film, Drum, filmed a few months ago in complete secrecy and presented at the Critic’s Week during the Mostra in Venice.
