Phnom Penh Through The Lens of Cinema
Espace Pitoëff - Théâtre Pitoëff | Monday, March 7th at 7:30 pmCo-presented with Radio Télévison Suisse (RTS) and HEAD – Geneva
The Bophana center in Phnom Penh, founded by Rithy Panh, is a masterpiece on memory, social and cultural issues in Cambodia. Swiss TV RTS, in collaboration with the Swiss cooperation DDC, launched a filmmaking training program 3 years ago.
In November 2015, as an extension of this project, the Grand Voyage initiated by the HEAD – Genève asked students from Geneva and the Bophana Centre to create films in direct hold with the reality of the Cambodian capital. Over 4 weeks, the apprehension of the other in his irreducible difference, beyond the picturesque, was one of the ambitions of this Workshop, headed by Fernand Mergar.
8 films were completed in Geneva this winter with the Bophana students, thanks to the collaboration between the FIFDH and the RTS. These short films, true stories held by the necessarily subjective visions, will be presented here for the first time.
