Tragedy Reloaded is a pluridisciplinary theatre production directed by Maya Bösch (2015 to 2016).This new creation by the Compagnie Sturmfrei is intended as an exploration of the universal, intellectual, ethical and political aspects of humanity.
By juxtaposing two founding texts of European theatre (the tragedy of Aeschylus’ The Suppliant, and Jelinek’s contemporary tragedy Animals), Maya Bösch interrogates the possibility of creating the world differently. By bringing together women of different generations, cultures and professions, the director gives new power to the chorus, a staple of ancient theatre.
With this creation, Maya Bösch tackles the tragedy of women in their relation to men, but also to History.
From Aeschylus’ Greece to contemporary Lampedusa, by way of sexual markets, these women evoke the haunting questions of asylum, exile, and what it means to be a woman. Their screams resonate.
