Focus on Tunisia

Maison des arts du Grütli | Salle Fonction: Cinéma | Saturday, March 12th from 1:30 pm
Organised by Le Pont Genève.
The 2011 Tunisian Revolution paved the way for a new democracy. Youth played a central role in the revolution, demanding their rights through slogans that resonated across the world, such as “dégage”, “game over”, “dignity” and “social justice”. The initial protest movement was swiftly followed by a cultural uprising, which manifested itself through art, music, theatre, caricatures and comics. Cinema, too, has been at the forefront of this cultural uprising with a wave of young talents expressing their support for democracy. The films selected shine a spotlight on ordinary Tunisians in their struggle for a better life amid hope and disappointment, but also on the social misery and authoritarian rule.
